NPR: All Things Considered

The wonderful Madeleine Brand interviewed me about Michael Kimball Writes Your Life Story (on a postcard) for NPR's All Things Considered. It will air the week of July 20th, and I'm really happy that this project that I love is one of the things being considered. Many thanks, too, to Shereen Meraji, Erin Killian, and everybody who has told me their life story.

Thank you, Maggie. I always know I've written a good one when you comment.

And thank you, Timothy. I know you understand what it's like.

All the best,

p.s. Thank you for your description of a runner's high! That was a perfect answer; just what I was looking for.

I can't wait to gingerly place my cheek on my radio speaker and nuzzle the volume knob with my nose.

Ok. Not really.

You rock.

I heard the interview today and was reminded of Orson Scott Card's "Speaker for the Dead." In the far future, any human colonist can request a speaker from the home world to come, investigate the deceased, and then speak that person's life, good and bad, at a public ceremony. The concept's stayed with me for years, it's so compelling. Who wouldn't want that? I think you're onto something.
